A mother in South Carolina was arrested after police discovered her passed out in her car while her lice-infested toddler sat in the back seat.

According to WFAA, authorities say that a paramedic was sent to Blackstock Road in Spartanburg County on Friday after a concerned citizen saw a woman passed out in her car.

When the paramedic finally arrived on the scene, he reportedly knocked on the window of the car multiple times before 39-year-old Lori Lawson finally woke up.

After waking up Lawson, the paramedic noted that her speech was very slurred and she smelled strongly of alcohol.

As the station reports, the paramedic quickly helped the 2-year-old girl out of the car and immediately noticed that her entire head was covered in lice.

The paramedic immediately rushed Lawson and her daughter to the hospital, where they were both checked out.

Investigators say that when Lawson was questioned, she couldn’t actually give them the correct year of her daughter’s birth.

One deputy who was called to the scene also revealed that Lawson had obvious troubles completing full sentenced at the hospital.

Thankfully, the toddler was quickly treated at the hospital and immediately placed into emergency protective custody.

Meanwhile, Lawson is currently being held in the Spartanburg County Detention Center on child neglect charges.

WFAA soon shared this story on Facebook, where many commenters demanded that Lawson face more charges than child neglect.

“The well being of the child is top priority and it is clear she is not being cared for with her mother. Child should be removed from home and charges filed against the mother for endangering her childs life,” one commenter wrote on Facebook.

“She is what you call TRASH. She don't deserve to have a child. Give the child to someone that would care for her. D S S will take a child from the parents then give them to a relative and most of the time that put them strait back where it was. So sad for this child,” another added.

Some, however, felt empathy for the mother and her daughter, who are clearly going through a difficult time.

“It is obvious that the child be treated for lice and be in a home with love...we are too quick to judge and not to quick to love others when they are not like what we think they should be!! We don't know what her problems are but we need to pray that God will send someone to help her and let Jesus' light shine through them!! She is in need too !! I am not making light of the child's situation...but trying to get help for this lady herself! We need to thank God for the blessings we have and try our best to share what we have!!!May God bless us all!!” one woman wrote.
