A woman in Nevada has been arrested after it was discovered that she had lied about her child dying in order to collect money from others.
According to Fox 11, Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong has confirmed that Victoria Morrison has been arrested for collecting money from strangers after lying about her child dying.
Deputies recently learned that Morrison had created a GoFundMe page after claiming that her child had died.
It didn’t take long, however, before a witness told authorities that Morrison’s child was actually still alive.
According to reports, the witness contacted Morrison’s spouse, who quickly revealed the truth.
Deputies soon conducted a welfare check to make sure that Morrison was telling the truth, but she continued to lie.
Authorities say Morrison continuously told them that her child had died, though they could find no death records to support her claim.
Once another deputy was dispatched to the residence, they were able to make contact with Morrison’s child, who appeared to be alive and well.
The deputies then contacted Morrison once again, at which point she tried to tell them that it had actually been a friend who set up the GoFundMe page for her son.
Authorities also discovered that a teacher had given Morrison several gift cards after learning that the child had allegedly died.
Morrison has since been arrested on several charges, while her child has been taken into the custody of the Nevada Division of Child and Family Services.
KRNV News has since shared this story on Facebook, where many commenters are demanding that Morrison face the maximum penalty over what she did.
“Give her the max sentence.. make an example out of this POS. They say she and her boyfriend was going g to take her son hunting.. and they was planning on killing the kid. Doug Spaniol does gambling make you do that kind of stuff???” one woman commented.
“That's so sad that she would choose money over her own child. Her child needs to be with a REAL family who would truly love them,” another commenter added.
“I think anyone who gave to her should also be held accountable for being so gullible.or maybe she should have just called it a church instead and said that baby jesus died and no charges would have been filed..,” one person wrote.
At this time, it remains unclear exactly how much money Morrison swindled out of the people who tried to help her.
