A mother has confessed that she abandoned her 2-month-old baby on the side of the road in Vietnam because she was upset with her husband.
Authorities say the tiny baby was heard crying on the ground outside government offices in Ho Chi Min City, Vietnam.
According to The Mirror, authorities were shocked later when they reviewed CCTV footage from the scene and saw that the baby’s mother arrived in an Uber taxi before calmly placing the infant on the ground.
Police say the mother then got right back inside her Uber and left the scene, never to return.
Shockingly enough, when authorities finally tracked down the baby’s father later, he told them that he had absolutely no idea what had happened to his child.
The father reportedly arrived home hours later after searching everywhere for the baby boy.
While being interviewed by police after the baby was found, the unnamed father explained that his son’s mother had disappeared earlier that day after they argued.
The mother, who has not been identified, reportedly admitted to police that she abandoned her son outside the building to get back at his father after they had fought.
Le Nhu Ngoc, one of the rescuers pictured holding the boy, later revealed that the sweet baby seemed completely oblivious to the chaos around him.
"The boy was abandoned at the social committee offices. The woman rode in an Uber taxi and left him at the gates then went home,” Le Nhu Ngoc said. "He was crying and very upset at first. But after he was taken inside he cheered up. He was so adorable that everyone was amazed by him. I would love for him to be part of my family.”
While government officials have since revealed that they contacted the Uber driver after finding the baby, they have not heard back from him as of Tuesday morning.
Government officials then posted a plea online, begging the boy’s parents to come forward as soon as possible.
"An old lady claiming to be the grandmother and the man claiming to be the child's biological father came inside,” a spokesman for the Nhi Binh Commune said later. "The commune was quick to work to verify the identity of the child. The mother then arrived at the building and identified herself.
"The mother said she had conjugal problems, she hugged the baby before leaving him and going home in the taxi. The baby's mother was distressed, she was crying alone," he added.
The baby has since been released into the custody of his father and grandmother.
