Less than 24 hours after Ohio authorities issued a statewide endangered missing child advisory for a little girl who went missing from her family’s restaurant, police have uncovered the child’s body inside the restaurant.
In a heartbreaking and chilling twist, the search for 5-year-old Ashley Zhao has led police straight to her body.
According to WJW-TV, Ashley was found dead Tuesday night inside her parents' Portage Street NW eatery, Ang’s Asian Cuisine, authorities have since confirmed.
Police have been searching for the little girl since Monday night, when her parents reported her missing.
On Monday, Ashley’s mother told police that the 5-year-old went to take a nap in the back of the restaurant around 4:30 p.m.
When Ashley’s mother came back to check on her around 9 p.m., the little girl was gone.
The family reportedly told authorities that Ashley had been known to wander out the back door from time to time, so police immediately searched the surrounding area for her.
According to a press release from Jackson Township police, Ashley was found “deceased and concealed inside the building,” when police discovered her body.
At this time, authorities have not revealed what “concealed” meant or whether they thought Ashley’s death could have been caused by something other than an accident.
