A mother in Arizona has been arrested after being accused of burning her 5-year-old daughter on purpose.
According to Tucson.com, 28-year-old Samantha Osteraas was booked into the Pima County jail on two counts of suspicion of child abuse after she allegedly burned her adopted daughter in scalding bath water.
Deputy Ryan Inglett, a sheriff's department spokesman, has revealed that on December 29, authorities were called to a home in Tucson after receiving reports of a rescue follow-up.
When police arrived at the home, they were shocked to find that a 5-year-old girl had been very badly burned.
The little girl was immediately rushed to the hospital, where it was determined that she had suffered severe burns from scalding bath water.
After collecting evidence during the investigation, police realized that the burns inflicted upon Osteraas’ adopted daughter had not been accidental.
On January 5, the Pima County Attorney's Office issued an arrest warrant for Osteraas, who was arrested later that day.
According to authorities, since Osteraas’ arrest, police have been forced to remove three other children from her home.
As for the poor little girl, police say she is still in critical condition in the hospital, where she is currently being treated for serious burns.
