Mom is Kicked Out of Restaurant For Changing Dirty Diaper at Table
A Texas mom says she doesn’t understand why she was kicked out of a restaurant when she started changing her infant’s diaper right at the table.
Miranda Sowers said she was sitting at Brother’s Pizza Express in Spring with her three young daughters, 4-month-old Reagan, 4-year-old Lauren, and 8-year old Katelyn, when her baby girl needed a diaper change.
However, when she took the kids into the bathroom, she quickly realized that there were no changing tables.
Since she and the girls were alone, Sowers didn’t want to make everybody go out to the minivan to change their baby sister’s diaper.
“I thought you know what I’ve got my own changing pad, she’s tiny, she fits right here on the chair,” the mother of three told KHOU. “So I laid her down quickly and quietly changed her diaper.”
Bessa Lala, whose family owns the restaurant, said that the small incident turned into a huge ordeal for the other customers.
“How would you feel,” she asked. “You’re sitting there eating. I don’t want to lose all these other customers because they see a dirty diaper.”
Bessa’s brother, Donny Lala, who manages the restaurant, said that many fellow customers immediately started complaining of the smell.
“As soon as you start opening the diaper, people start complaining about the smell of the diaper,” he told KHOU. “Last thing I want is a customer throwing up.”
After Donny texted his sister to let her know what was happening, the family said they had no choice but to ask Sowers and her children to leave.
Their food was packed up in to-go containers and they were sent to wait outside. Now, Sowers is saying she and her kids were mistreated so badly that she will be filing a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.
However, the restaurant’s employees are standing by their decision that it’s just common decency not to change a dirty diaper where other people are eating.
They also said that Brother’s Pizza Express, like many small businesses, does not have changing tables in the bathrooms because their restaurant is not big enough for them to be worth the extra cost.
