Second Duggar Daughter Enters into Very Traditional Courtship

Jill Duggar, star of TLC’s hit reality program, “19 Kids & Counting,” is now the second Duggar daughter to be traditionally courted. She has confirmed that she is being courted by fellow Mormon, 25-year-old Derick Dillard.

Jill, 22, is only the second Duggar girl to enter in a romantic relationship. Her younger sister Jessa, 20, has been in a public romantic relationship with Ben Seewald since last year.

Derick and Jill were introduced to each other by Jill’s father, Jim Bob, who had connected with the young man while he was doing missionary work in Nepal.

“I had gotten an email from Derick a few years ago and gave him my phone number so he could share the work he was doing in Nepal,” Jim Bob told People magazine. “I was impressed with him as I got to know him over the years. He sounded like an amazing young man. I felt like from the beginning, they had similar personalities and goals. I thought they would hit it off.”

The pair has been in a very traditional courtship since November, only after a long period of parental supervised Skype sessions and some text messaging.

“I was really impressed with his character and I was surprised how much we have the same vision and life goals,” Jill told People magazine. “He’s a great guy.”

Like her younger sister, Jill has entered into a traditional Mormon courtship, meaning that she and Derick cannot be alone together. Any dates they go on must be supervised, and an adult must always sit in the middle of the couple.

No kissing, intimate hugging, hand holding, or lingering eye contact will be allowed between Jill and Derick until they are married.

The young woman says that she already knows she’s fallen in love with Derick, adding that even their connection over Skype was instantaneous.

“We got to know each other in the first few months pretty quickly,” Jill explained. “I was in love with someone I had never met in person, but we really knew each other well.”

Though much of their relationship has been long-distance, Derick said he already feels like he fits in with her and her family.

“We have a large pool of chaperones,” he told the magazine. “You have to come in armed with good jokes and I usually have Skittles as well. It has been such a huge blessing to get to see her a few times a week.”
