Footage of a routine traffic stop that quickly escalated to a dangerous level has surfaced on the Internet.
The dash cam video shows a police officer pulling over a minivan for speeding in Taos, New Mexico. NBC News reported that the driver of the minivan was Oriana Ferrell, a mother of 5, who was driving 77 mph on a 55 mph road with her children in the car.
But once the police officer walked over to the mother’s van door, things intensified. The video shows the mother trying to escape, the officer breaking a window, pulling a taser on her 14-year-old son, and ends with backup officers arriving and shooting at the vehicle full of children as the mother flees for a second time.
NBC News shared that the mother then led police on a 4-minute car chase. She eventually pulled over at a hotel, where she was arrested with 5 counts of child abuse, fleeing an officer, resisting an officer, and reckless driving. She was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, as Taos News revealed there were 2 marijuana pipes in the vehicle; her 14-year-old son was also arrested with battery of an officer.
