Tell us more about yourself, your site, and your family.
I am a wife and mother to 4 beautiful children. One son, aged 16, and three daughters 14, 10, and 8. They keep me quite busy! We live in Ohio, but are originally from Chicago. I started my blog as a way to share recipes with family and friends back home. I didn’t really know much about food blogging in the first year, and I was shocked when strangers (STRANGERS!) were commenting on my recipes! I’m going on my second year and having a blast! I mostly blog about desserts, but you will find many other family friendly recipes too. I especially love using my slow cooker, and many of my dinner ideas revolve around delicious meals made easy!
Where do you find most of your recipes? Do you have any favorite cookbooks?
A lot of my recipes started out from a family favorite. Many more have come from some of my favorite cookbooks or bloggers. I love Taste of Home and I also love church cookbooks. I have several from several various churches. Those are wonderful because you know people aren’t going to submit a recipe with their name if it’s a bad dish! And of course, half my recipes (or more!) are my own creation.
What are your family’s favorite desserts that you make?
Gosh, this is tough question! My husband loves Chocolate Chip Cookies, the rest of clan loves cheesecake and cupcakes! Apple Nachos are one thing though that we ALL love!
Which desserts are your favorites to bake?
I know this sounds so simple and easy, but I love Rice Krispie Treats. You can change up the flavor so many ways. Did you know you can add a package of dry pudding mix to your melted marshmallow to give it a fun flavor? Banana is my favorite!!
I also love making homemade fudge. You can find at least a dozen varieties on my blog!
Your site has amazing dessert recipes for brownies, cake, candy, cookies, pies, and more! What are a few recipes that you recommend moms make?
Homemade baked donuts and muffins are so easy to make. Plus, you can bake up some extra and they freeze well too. The same is true for cookies. I love to bake fresh cookies each week. One trick I have used for years is to double the batch. Make one batch as usual, but the other batch form into cookie dough balls, freeze, then stick in Ziploc freezer bags. Now you have a whole batch of cookie dough ready to bake fresh on a moment’s notice! I have a freezer FULL of cookie dough-- who’s coming over for coffee?
