Keston, a 10-month-old baby boy, is being called a miracle after he survived plummeting out of an 8th-floor window last week in Harlem, New York.
Keston’s mother, Cynthia Wachenheim, held her baby boy close to her chest and then purposely leaped out her apartment window to her death around 3:30 pm, according to Daily Entertainment News.
The mother, who according to Global Grind, landed directly on her back, broke her son’s fall, as Keston bounced off her body before hitting the ground. That bounce may have saved his life, as it significantly lessened the impact of his fall.
Fortunately, paramedics were able to respond to the scene quickly and Keston was rushed to the hospital to be taken care of.
According to wjla.com, Wachenheim’s husband, Hal Barcharach, had stormed out of their home about an hour before his wife jumped. Neighbors painted the picture of what happened right before he left, and shared that the couple had a screaming argument that morning.
Christian Johnson, 37, said, “He was yelling at her today. It made me stop and listen. He was asking her why she wouldn’t pick up the phone. He kept repeating it. Then, the baby started crying.”
Before making the leap, Wachenheim wrote a 13-page suicide note by hand where she revealed that she was not happy. According to a close source, Wachenheim felt like she had failed as a mom, and in the last page of the letter, touched briefly on suffering from postpartum depression.
According to Daily Entertainment News, Wachenheim was set on the idea that her baby boy had cerebral palsy, despite doctors telling her he did not. Nevertheless, Wachenheim did not believe what doctors continuously assured her; she even mentioned her son having a handicap in her suicide note.
Little Keston remains in the hospital where he reportedly is in stable condition.
