Meet Rebecca from Blueberry Smiles
Tell us more about yourself and why you decided to start your blog, Blueberry Smiles. What inspired you to choose the name of your blog?
I started my blog because in the midst of a busy life, I was looking for balance, an outlet to focus on healthy living (which is so important to me), and a new hobby. After reading blogs for a while, I was inspired to start my own! Blogging can be a lot of work, but it’s so rewarding and I’ve loved being a part of the “community.” I chose the name in part because I love blueberries so much that they make me smile, but also because I think blueberries are a great analogy for life—they’re so small, but they’re also mighty. Every blueberry is jam packed with amazing nutrients that do so much for our bodies. And just like blueberries, in the grand scheme of things, we’re small too—just one person out in an enormous planet. But, we’re capable of doing amazing things too. Each and every one of us. And I hope that just like blueberries, we all remember to live our lives that way.
What motivates you to be healthy? How do you continually live a healthy lifestyle?
What motivates me to be healthy is just that I feel sooo much better in every way if I stick to a healthy lifestyle. It affects my energy, how much sleep I need, my mood, and really how I feel about myself. The better I feel about myself, the happier and more alive I feel. Life’s too short not to make it the very best—and sticking to a healthy lifestyle helps me in every way!
What are your favorite foods to eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?
For breakfast, I love the simple things—a couple pieces of fruit and green tea. Lunch is always at work, so I my favorite thing to pack is quinoa salads full of veggies– it fills me up and if I make a big bowl on Sunday, it makes for easy lunch-planning for the entire week. I usually need dinners to be easy as well—I love roasted veggies and grilled fish…or anything on the bbq!
Do you have any favorite snacks? If so, what are they? Do you have any snacks that you recommend moms make for their kids?
My favorite snacks are mini-meals—yogurt with almonds, toast with peanut butter, or a green smoothie. My favorite kid-friendly snacks are peanut butter krispie bars (check out my blog- kids love these!), blueberry banana bread, and fruit smoothies.
What do you think are the best food brands that moms should buy?
I like whole food’s 360 brand because it’s pure ingredients and less expensive than organic name-brand products. Annie’s and Amy’s brands are also great.
What are a few food items that are always in your refrigerator?
Almond milk, frozen blueberries and bananas (for smoothies!), frozen veggies, and eggs (for quick meals).
Do you have any advice on what moms should eat if they are trying to lose baby weight?
Listen to your body, stock up on foods without any preservatives, stay away from sugar, and try to make large amounts of healthy dishes to keep in the fridge (quinoa salads, veggie casseroles, kale salads, grilled chicken and veggies) that will last you the entire week. Also—be patient!! The weight will come off, but it just takes time.
What are you most looking forward to during the summer?
Sitting by the pool with a really good book!
