Who is Babysitting Your Kids?

In the latest viral video circulating around the web, surveillance tape catches a man placing a young boy inside a washing machine while a female companion looks on, and then scrambling for help when the machine automatically locks and turns on with the toddler inside.

While the two people seen in the video were at first believed to be the parents of the boy, the boy’s real mother, Sakia David, actually had no knowledge of the May 11^th incident until she saw the video on the evening news.   David says her one year old son, Saimeir Bush, was treated at the hospital for scrapes and bruises but thankfully was not seriously injured.

David says she left her son in the care of the woman seen in the video, who she identifies as the girlfriend of the boy’s father, but is unsure of the identity of the male companion.

According to a report by the Associated Press, authorities say the man put the boy in the washing machine as a prank, unaware it would automatically start.  No criminal charges are expected to be filed because it appears the two were not acting with any kind of criminal intent or intent to hurt the child but the matter remains under investigation.

This babysitter’s negligence and thoughtless mistake luckily didn’t end in serious injury or death for Saimeir, but David was quoted as saying she would “think twice” before allowing anyone to babysit her son again.

Parents this day and age are busier than ever, making the use of babysitters almost inevitable but incidents like this are a clear reminder about the care and precaution that needs to be taken when deciding who to trust with the care of our children.
