Pregnant with Twins! An Interview with Heather J.
How did you find out you were pregnant? When are your twins due? Was your pregnancy a surprise?
I took a home pregnancy test first thing in the morning and within seconds it registered as pregnant with a very dark prominent line. I then called my Dr. to get a urine test and it was officially confirmed that I was pregnant!
My husband and I were trying to conceive for about 4 months so the positive test results were very much not a surprise but a very joyous, welcomed, and special moment that we shared together.
The twins projected due date is December 7th but the doctors informed me that it is common with multiples to deliver early so we are thinking it will probably be in November.
What was your initial reaction to being pregnant? What was your husband’s initial reaction? How did you give him the news?
My initial reaction to being pregnant was definitely tears of joy! I ran straight back to bed, it was about 2:30am because I couldn’t wait any longer to take the test, and woke my husband up crying hysterically that we were pregnant! He said are you sure? We then went into the bathroom to double check the test and then he started crying and we must have cried and hugged each other for about a half an hour straight! I then told him that I have a very strong feeling we are having twins just by the extreme positive reading I got in split seconds. There was no more sleeping after that…..
Have you experienced any nausea thus far in your pregnancy? Any other symptoms? How about any food cravings?
I have had some bouts of nausea but it hasn’t been bad at all. My doctor warned me with twins that everything will be doubled and escalated because there are two but I have been lucky that nausea hasn’t been one of those things that have really bothered me. Don’t get me wrong, I do get nauseated for a bit every day but nothing that stops me from doing what I am doing. What I have been experiencing is a complete lack of energy, very very tired at most times of the day, and I am already showing at almost 11 weeks! I was actually starting to show very early on (like in the 8th week is when I really started to notice the bump) and couldn’t believe it but that is what the doctor mentioned would happen, and it did!
So far, my food cravings have been Starburst and carbs! I cannot get enough carbs to save my life! But what I am hearing from other mother’s is that the 2nd trimester is when the “weird” cravings start to take over….we will see shortly!
Are there any habits you had to give up since you became pregnant?
Definitely my rigorous workout routine has stopped. I use to workout 4-5 times per week at high intensity but that has pretty much stopped in its entirety.
What are you doing to prepare for the twins’ arrival? Are you going to find out the genders of your twins?
I think I have an advantage being a twin myself. I know what it is like having a twin so I can relay that back to my twins.
Yes, we absolutely are going to find out the genders but have to wait at least another few weeks until they will be able to tell.
What has been your biggest challenge thus far in your pregnancy?
My biggest challenge is definitely trying to exercise. I am so tired and achy that when I get home from work the last thing I want to do is exercise. I do try to walk a lot during the day at work so I can at least get some walking in each day.
What do you look forward the most as a mom?
Hearing them call me mommy and seeing them grow up!
