Little Miss Nerd Girl, an Interview with Lacey N.
Tell us more about yourself, your family, and your site:
A little about me…well, most of the time I feel I am on the brink of insanity. I am a stay-at-home mom to three kids, ages 5, 3½, and 2½. My oldest just turned five so she will not start kindergarten until next fall, which means all three of them are home with me. My husband works from home, so most of my day is spent keeping the kids quiet, (unsuccessfully) getting housework done, cooking, and trying to stay caught up on my school work.
I started my blog as a place to share stories and vent. When I first started blogging the only people reading were my mom and cousin, but then I discovered there were all sorts of mom bloggers out there and they were all going through the same kind of things I was. So I joined a few groups and started networking.
How do you manage your time as a mom who is attending school full time online with a husband also attending school full time? Any tips for moms thinking of going back to school?
This question made me laugh a little because the truth is, I am just winging it. My husband works all day, and then he gets some time to work on his homework – alone. I, on the other hand, have to attempt to get all my course work completed while three kids climb on me. Luckily, I am going to get a degree in something I love to do, so it makes the course work a little less boring sometimes. I just steal a moment whenever I can to work on my assignments. So far it is working, as I have been able to maintain a 4.0 GPA.
What are some of the things you like to blog about or feature on your site?
I like to blog about my kids. They are funny and do crazy things. When I can I like to feature other moms with blogs and shops. I’d like to help those trying to earn an income doing something they love by giving them a bit more exposure.
We know moms don’t get much time to relax, but when you do get the chance, what do you like to do to relax?
Relax…haha, what’s that? When I get a moment to myself I like to bake, read, and write. Not necessarily in that order. But mostly, I like to sleep.
What are some of your favorite brands and where do you buy those products?
I do a lot of my shopping at Target. Super Target to be specific. My kids wear a lot of Carter’s, and we’re Disney freaks so we by Disney toys all the time from all the different brands. I think that, as far as toys go, Fisher-Price is in our house the most.
Do you have any blogs or websites you recommend for moms? Where else can we find you online?
I spend a lot of time over at Mom Blog Society (http://momblogsoceity.com). When I am not there I’m usually on Facebook.
What are your top 10 tips for moms?
1. Laugh – if you can’t laugh at your mishaps, then you’ll go insane.
2. Remember, you’re not insane! It just feels like it sometimes.
3. Kiss your kids goodnight, even if they are asleep. It gives them good dreams.
4. Make sure you practice good manners. Kids learn from seeing.
5. Cry – because we all need a moment to let it all out.
6. Create things with your kids.
7. Cook with your kids.
8. Always bring an extra outfit with you for kids under the age of two.
9. Pick your battles…you know, don’t sweat the small stuff.
10. Always let your kids know how much you love them by telling them and showering them with hugs and kisses.
