Should Your Baby Sleep in Your Room?

There has been much consideration as to whether parents and their babies should sleep together or apart. Babies love to sleep with parents in order to feel a sense of comfort and safety.  However, you might be worried that they will form an attachment and then when is the appropriate time for them to sleep alone? Some people think it is best for their babies to sleep with them for as long as necessary.  This might mean until their child is a few years old.  On the other hand, some people believe after a few months the baby is ready to sleep alone.  You might be wondering, what is normal?

One reason for you and your baby to sleep together is because of convenience.  You might have to wake up in the middle of the night for a nighttime feeding.  When you have a newborn, they may eat every few hours.  Therefore, when you and your baby are already together, a nighttime feeding is much easier.

Moreover, some babies will be more likely to fall back asleep when he or she is in your room even without a feeding. The baby feels comfortable with you and can easily go back to sleep.  Babies wake up on their own often and will be able to fall back to sleep when they can see a parent.

Something very common is for parents to wait for their baby to fall asleep on their bed. Then, they will set the baby in his or her crib because a crib is the safest place for a baby.  Babies will feel comforted while falling asleep with a parent.

Furthermore, several parents feel more relaxed having their baby in their room. When you wake up at night, it is reassuring to wake up and see your baby rather than trust the baby monitor.  Having your baby sleep in your room will probably make you and your baby feel more comfortable.  There are many benefits to you and your baby sleeping together in the beginning stages of being born.
