An Interview with “Fancy That..Fancy This” Blogger Ameena Din
Tell me about your family and your blog?
I am the wife of a technology-obsessed computer geek and the mom of a demanding 6-year-old girl. I started my blog as a place to vent because I felt like nobody I encountered in real-life could relate to how difficult I found motherhood. Starting my blog was one of the best things I’ve ever done because I now know there are other moms like me out there!
What is one thing about you that not many people know?
That as much as I want to eventually publish my book I wonder if I have the chops to be a writer.
What is your biggest challenge being a mom?
Everything. No really, I find absolutely everything about being a mother hard. From having to change my daughter’s diapers, to potty training her, to getting her to sleep through the night, to helping her learn to read, to answering 1,000 questions a day. Everything. Is. Hard.
What are the main things kids do that you wish they wouldn’t?
I find the non-stop questions especially hard to handle. I wish that I could just provide a quota for the day and once it’s reached the questions would STOP! I also wish my kid would stop getting car sick - cleaning up vomit never really does get easier, does it?
What common mistakes do you see moms making that you wish they wouldn’t?
I wish moms wouldn’t judge each other so harshly, especially since we really have no idea what’s going on behind the scenes. But in my heart of hearts? I wish moms wouldn’t give their children Coke. Or Cheetos. That just grosses me out. But there I go judging…
What are your favorite brands and where do you buy them?
For children’s clothing Naartje is my favorite. For my own clothes, BCBG and Anthropologie are my favorites. For household stuff I love Calypso St. Barth and Overstock.com. For everything else from books to vitamins, Amazon never lets me down!
