Activities to Get Through Sick Days

Being sick is never fun, especially if you have to watch your toddler go through the uneasiness and pain. Just because your little one is feeling under the weather however, doesn’t mean you two still can’t have fun! Try to get your child’s mind off of feeling down with some of these great sick day activities!

When you are feeling sick, you don’t usually feel like eating, and that’s true for kids too. Getting a sick infant to eat food can be a challenge but not if you make a fun activity out of it. Try switching it up and serving breakfast for dinner. Pancakes and French Toast are favorites for toddlers! Even having your little one help you in the kitchen can lift his or her spirits up! Another event to help your infant gain an appetite and have fun can include throwing together a tea party! Set up in style in the dining room by your toddler, the tea party can be a great afternoon activity and bonding experience. Make the “tea” a juice-based smoothie that way your child will get the fluids needed to prevent dehydration. Running a bath can also boost your child’s spirits and provide for excellent fever relief! By adding bubbles, or nontoxic coloring to the water, your toddler will feel like it’s a treat to be in the bath, rather than a chore. Soap crayons can allow your little one to draw on the tub walls, creating a fun afternoon in the tub.

Taking the boredom out of bed rest can be tough but it’s not impossible! Give your toddler coloring books, or help create home made magnets with them! By collecting cookie sheets, stickers, and cookie cutters, your little one will be creating magnets in no time! Even stretching the rules a bit seems reasonable when your toddler is sick in bed. Allow another half an hour of TV, or serve chocolate ice cream for lunch. By catering to comfort things, your toddler will be able to relax and rest.

Simple activities can help boost your child’s morale when he or she is feeling under the weather. Remember, plenty of rest and fun is the medicine for a quick and speedy recovery!
