BabyDash – an interview with Kathryn Flamme
An Interview With Model Mommy and Baby Dash Blogger Kathryn Flamme

Tell me about your family and your blog?
Before I had kids I loved to model and worked in various films. Now I am married with 3 kids, all 2 years apart, starting at age 6 down to 2. I started my blog to capture my adventures as a stay at home mom and traveling around the world. My blog became so much more as I added a photography site, and as my blog grew I was asked to review baby products from certain companies. Then that grew tremendously and I decided to separate my family blog from my review blog, BabyDash--which is a hit! I have been blogging for 3 years now and still enjoy every second of it. My favorite part of my family blog is reminiscing through the pages and recapturing those moments. We love to travel on cruise ships and enjoy life. We just sold our home and we are now living in a town house until we find that perfect house, though living here is like being at a tropical resort. I kinda like it and the kids love it. They have made so many new friends here.
What is one thing about your family that not many people know?
I call myself a single married mom. I have a great supportive husband that is a major workaholic (am I complaining? Heck NO!). I am so thankful I have a husband who actually loves his job. My family is very close and not just immediate family, extended family as well. I cannot be without family. My kids are freakin’ adorable. Not to brag or anything, but they have the best sense of humor! They can make me laugh anytime of the day.
What is your biggest challenge being a mom?
There are so many. Where do I start? Since I am home with the kids 13 hours a day (excluding weekends) I am with them all the time, which really leaves me with no mommy time. But at the same time, when I am away from my kids all I want to do is be with them. I miss them. Sad but true. Now, the other challenges, potty training, temper tantrums, fibbing, not wanting to do homework, yelling, fighting. I’m pretty sure I left some stuff out but, yes those are all challenges. I think I have some grey hairs. I love being a mom though, and would not change it for the world.
What do you use coupons and special offers for when you shop?
I so want to be like the coupon lady! I try but I’m not very successful. I usually save about $10. I guess that’s better than nothing right? What would be better is getting a ton of stuff for free! Where I live though, they don’t really do the double coupon thing like the do in the east. I shop at Target a lot and they now accept Target coupons plus manufacturer coupons, so I try to utilize that. Target also has printable coupons on their website which I do all the time.
What are your top 10 tips for moms?
#1 Don’t make your hubby get a vasectomy right after you have a baby. I had my hubby do it right after my third was born and I am so regretting it now! I would really love another little girl!
#2 When potty training your kids use the plastic underwear at night-much cheaper, saves on waste, and it works!
#3 Let your kids explore (to an extent). My kids are so mature for there age. Why? Because I let them do things that most parents would freak out over. I am not overbearing and I hate structure. Structure, to me, is jail. I am an adventurous, last minute, up-and-go mom. You can’t be that if your child has to nap at a certain time or eat at a certain time on the dot. My kids eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner and take naps as they please. My 2 year old just crashes on the floor when he’s tired.
#4 Its okay to let your kids watch TV. Nowadays there are actually a lot of great learning shows on. My kids have learned some Spanish just from watching Dora. It’s school in a box!
#5 Don’t baby your child if they fall, other wise, you will create a whiny, attention needy child every time they get hurt.
#6 Cherish every moment you have with your kids
#7 You don’t need pacifier wipes! Use your shirt!
#8 Just because they have a fever does not mean you need to rush them to the ER. Most of the time it’s teething. My son ran a 103 temperature every time a tooth came in.
#9 Your kids will one day say they hate you, so prepare for that moment.
#10 Make sure to wipe front to back!
Think that about covers it!
What are your favorite brands and where do you buy them?
Like I said earlier, I shop at Target and I do buy Up & Up products. For all you moms out there who have a Target near you, the Up & Up diapers work so good and are about 6 dollars cheaper. They hold a lot and they have the stretchy tabs. I wish I would have known that with the first two. I also love Yankee Candles (my favorite is the vanilla lime). Yum!
I have a Facebook and Twitter page
